Order Management - Creating a Line Type

ny Quote or Sales Order consists of 'header level details' and 'line level details'. The header captures generic details pertaining to the customer and those that are common for the entire order (e.g. shipping details, billing details, payment detail etc.) . The line capture specific details regarding each item / product that the customer wants to order through the Sales Order.

Every Sales Order has an Order type, which allows the organization to maintain multiple order types to support their business needs, with each type defaulting to certain specified values. Hence it is essential to define Order types (unless they are already defined previously) before Sales Orders can be created. Also, multiple Line Types can be associated with a single Order Type. Hence the Line Types should be created prior to creating the Order Types.

The following details the process of creating Line Types:

Note: Since Oracle E-Business Suite is highly customizable, some of the fields visible in the following screenshots might not be visible to the reader and vice-versa. The point here is to explain the essence of the flow and not get into the finer details.

Step 1. Log in to the Oracle E-Business Suite and wait for your responsibilities page to open.



Step 2. Scroll down to the Transaction Types > Details responsibility and open the corresponding form


Step 3. The Transaction Types form will pop-up. Fill out the required details as suggested below

Note: Filling out the yellowed fields is mandatory in Oracle, while filling out the other fields is optional.

Apart from tehe above mentioned details, other line specific details related to associated Documents, Pricing, Credit Check Rule, Shipping and Finance can also be provided, though this is not mandatory. Screenshots for the same are provided below.




Once the required details have been filled out, save the entry using the 'Save' button in the toolbar. Henceforth the newly created Line Type will be available for use.
